Do you realize that it is
estimated that a child will loose 20-30% of learned content over the summer
vacation?
Do you realize that before NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, teachers would spend the first
four to six weeks repeating last year’s basics?
Now teachers begin from day one moving on leaving many students frustrated and
behind. 64%

If we JUST provide daily summer
preparation and review workouts the retention and memory of the learned content
will be much higher and students will come start further along than when the
school year ended.

Fundamentals 1st
recommends a summer daily workout should be 30-60 minutes long, depending on
their ability, such as:
- MATH - 20 to 30
minutes on:
- Skip counting
- Addition/subtraction
challenge test
- Multiplication facts
- READING - 30 minutes on:
- Tape reading
- Silent
- Oral reading
- WRITING –
- Simple 2 or 3 sentence note that parents read and edit
Again, remember our goal: Just giving the Long Term Memory (LTM) opportunities to recognize and
retain math and reading basics. Let them play with the numbers and the
operations and strategies. Using a roll of two dice and adding their numbers
to a running total. First to 100 wins!
